Mammography aRt Initiative
Location:Patricia and Philip Frost Museum FIU Modesto A. Maidique campus 10975 SW 17th Street Miami, FL 33199Description:The mammography aRt initiative was created by Florida International University medical students to raise money for mammograms for low income women living in the Miami metropolitan area. The project focuses on hosting an art show displaying media in visual and audio formats created by local artists and breast cancer survivors and incorporates a silent auction. The initial aim is to raise enough to fund 80 mammograms for women in the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHelp program.
-All proceeds will help at least 80 women in the Miami area to receive much needed mammograms and breast health education.
-The Medicine and Society Capstone is a community-service learning project required of all FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Students. For more information, call 305.348.2362.
-For more information on the show or to make a donation, please email Robb Guido at rguid002@fiu.edu.
In addition to art, music, and speakers, there will be a silent auction of artwork created by local artist Pedro Jermaine with the theme “radiology meets art.” Using images from CT-scans, X-rays, MRI’s, and ultrasounds, Mr Jermaine has designed a number of original pieces ranging from amusing and lighthearted to poignant and evocative. In addition to the work of Mr. Jermaine, amateur artists, art students, and breast cancer survivors will display their portrayals of personal encounters with breast cancer as well as pieces that support breast cancer awareness
